The VQCC at the Final Conference of
the Quantum Communications Complementary Plan in Galicia.
Thanks to the Quantum Communications Complementary Plan (PCCC), launched in 2021 with a budget of €9.6 million, Galicia has taken significant steps towards becoming a national and international leader in quantum communication research and innovation. Funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Xunta de Galicia, the initiative has achieved several major milestones, including launching Spain’s largest quantum communication line. This line spans 123 km between Vigo and Santiago and allows for the secure distribution of encryption keys, protecting infrastructure and sensitive data.

The PCCC has also funded the three cutting-edge quantum communication laboratories that we have at the VQCC, as well as our optical ground station for satellite-based quantum communications. This station will connect with major European and international quantum satellite missions.
The plan has also attracted over 25 highly qualified researchers to Galicia, fostering new talent and enabling successful collaborations with national and European research initiatives. To date, these collaborations have generated more than €10 million in additional funding. The regional government has emphasised the importance of retaining this expertise in order to maintain Galicia’s leadership in the quantum field.

For the VQCC, participating in this pioneering initiative has been very successful. We are incredibly proud of our achievements and milestones we have reached together. The progress made is a testament to our dedication to advancing quantum communication technology.
