Vaisakh Mannalath wins
the 2025 QIA Challenge

15/06/2026

The Vigo Quantum Communication Center (VQCC) celebrates a new international recognition for one of its researchers. Vaisakh Mannalath, doctoral researcher at VQCC within the Quantum-Safe Internet (QSI) project, has been announced as one of the winners of the 2025 Quantum Internet Application Challenge, as highlighted by the Quantum Internet Alliance (QIA).

The challenge showcases innovative contributions to the development of future quantum internet technologies, bringing together leading research efforts focused on both quantum network infrastructure and applications.

Research developed at VQCC within the Quantum-Safe Internet project

Mannalath’s winning contribution is the application Quantum Networks with Minimum Cost Aggregation, which addresses one of the key challenges in quantum networking: efficient entanglement distribution across complex network topologies.

His approach investigates minimum-cost multi-path routing strategies, improving how quantum resources are allocated and distributed across a network. This type of optimization is essential for the scalability of future quantum communication systems, where robustness and efficiency must go hand in hand.

A researcher embedded in VQCC’s Quantum Communication Theory Group

Vaisakh Mannalath joined the Vigo Quantum Communication Center (VQCC) in 2023 as a doctoral researcher under the supervision of Prof. Marcos Curty, within the MSCA Doctoral Network Quantum-Safe Internet (QSI).

His research at VQCC focuses on quantum communication protocols and quantum network architectures, contributing to the center’s broader mission of advancing secure communication technologies for the quantum era.

Beyond his doctoral work, Mannalath is part of an active international research environment at VQCC, collaborating with researchers across Europe on quantum key distribution, quantum networks, and post-quantum security solutions.

Strengthening VQCC’s role in quantum-safe communications

This recognition further highlights VQCC’s role as a leading European research center in quantum communications and its contribution to training the next generation of scientists in the field of quantum-safe technologies.

The achievement of Vaisakh Mannalath reinforces the impact of the Quantum-Safe Internet project, which aims to develop secure communication infrastructures resilient to both classical and quantum threats.
