In July 2025, Loïc Millet, a PhD student at ID Quantique and the University of Geneva, Switzerland, undertook a research stay at the Quantum Communication Technology Group at VQCC.

During his visit, Loïc contributed to the European EAGLE-1 project, which aims to establish a secure European Quantum Communication Infrastructure (EuroQCI) by deploying satellite-based quantum key distribution (QKD).

As part of this effort, Loïc built and characterized two interferometers intended for the quantum receiver of the EAGLE-1 system. These interferometers are critical to enabling stable and accurate detection in phase-based QKD protocols. His measurements confirmed very low intrinsic quantum bit error rates (QBER), a critical performance parameter for reliable key exchange, validating the interferometers suitability for high-performance satellite QKD under real-world conditions.

His work contributes to the broader system being developed by the Vigo team, who are establishing an optical ground station to interface with the EAGLE-1 satellite.
