From June 29 to July 3, 2026, the Vigo Quantum Communication Center (VQCC) hosted Ondřej Klíčník, a PhD student at Brno University of Technology (Brno, Czech Republic), for a short research stay. During his visit, he collaborated primarily with the Quantum Hacking & Certification Lab.

The main objective of the visit was to advance the preparation of an experimental demonstration of an unambiguous state discrimination (USD) attack against a practical Coherent One-Way (COW) Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) system. Throughout the week, the team held extensive technical discussions on the experimental design, implementation strategy, and potential approaches for realizing the attack in practice. The visit also provided an excellent opportunity to explore future research directions and possible collaborations.

This research stay marks the beginning of a broader collaborative effort. Later this year, Ondřej will return to the VQCC as a guest researcher for approximately three and a half months, during which he will focus on the experimental realization and characterization of the mentioned USD attack on practical COW-QKD systems. The VQCC looks forward to this continued collaboration and to the scientific results that will emerge from the project.
