VQCC at the 8th
QKD Security Proof Workshop 2026

30/10/2026

Researchers from the Vigo Quantum Communication Center (VQCC), Margarida Pereira, Guillermo Currás, and Davide Rusca, participated in the 8th QKD Security Proof Workshop, held from October 26 to 30, 2026, at the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC), University of Waterloo, Canada.

The QKD Security Proof Workshop is an annual event dedicated to technical security proofs for Quantum Key Distribution (QKD). Its main goal is to foster scientific exchange and encourage in-depth discussions among researchers working on the security of quantum communication protocols.

Unlike traditional conferences, the workshop is structured around interactive discussions. Participants are invited to introduce specific topics through short presentations, followed by open discussions, with a particular emphasis on informal whiteboard talks.

This year’s edition focused on several key research areas, including device imperfections (such as detectors and photon sources), QKD certification, open problems in QKD, and other challenges in security proofs, including Continuous-Variable QKD (CV-QKD) and numerical security proofs.

The participation of VQCC researchers provided an opportunity to engage with the international quantum cryptography community, exchange ideas, and discuss current challenges and advances in the theoretical and practical security of QKD systems.
